Of course music is organic. It's got pedals, pipes and even fipples.

Organic can be used in the context I used it, as evolving

Organic?
Music is many things, but organic it's not
organic ɔːˈɡanɪk/
adjective
relating to or derived from living matter.

For example, I'd like to think Neil Young is innovative as he as known as the Godfather of Grunge, but even he has cited Hank Marvin, yes the very adept lead guitarist from the Shadows as one of his influences, then of course Hank Marvin had his own influences, what I'm getting at is music is very organic in it's influence

The clear influence as far as Musicology goes is James Brown. And justice is very much done.

Nothing wrong in being influenced Keddy, practically anyone who's anyone in the music industry has been influenced by someone else

It's a valid comparison. You can hear where he got a lot of ideas from. I think he was very aware of the influences. Maybe he was a bit in awe of them and couldn't really get away from them apart from superficial dabbling in technology

I'm not hugely aware of all his music, just mainly his hits but I'm not sure how Purple Rain is not completely innovative, I've never heard a track like it before, plus he absolutely shreds that guitar on it

I might put it on in a minute. It's been awhile since I last heard it. It's the best of the first three JH albums for me

Cant agree with that keddy. Putting aside the ridiculous comparison which misses the point entirely, you clearly arent very familiar with the little man's back catalogue if you think it's lacking ideas. And to be fair Funkadelic and Sly are very much overrated in their own right imho.
Still each to their own.

If you take one of the following albums that seemed to have influenced Prince Delfonics Delfonics Hendrix Axis Bold as Love Sly and the Family Stone There's a Riot Going on Funkedelic Maggot Brain
Each album has more power and ideas than Prince had in his whole musical career. Sorry he's alright, not too bad at times but you can't compare him to the real innovators of his kind of music.
